If someone is into making their own medicinal products as a home remedy for a cough here's a recipe that really works. The ingredients combine nutrients and spices. There are no side effects as there are with some over the counter of prescription cold or cough remedies. This home remedy for a cough doesn't make anyone
drowsy, it doesn't dry up mucous membranes leaving you feeling parched and you can still take this cough home remedy and drive or operate machinery.
While this home remedy will work on any type of cough that occurs for any reason or illness, it's especially helpful those coughs that sound dry and hacking and
keep you and everyone around you up all night for several nights or even as long as two weeks.
The recipe is made up of ingredients that sooth the throat irritated from coughing and other symptoms of illness and it also eliminates phlegm and relieves congestion in the chest. The biggest drawback is that it has a
horrible taste. You have to make yourself swallow it. But it really and truly works as a home remedy for a persistent, nagging cough.
The recipe calls for 1 tablespoon of honey, 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and 2 tablespoons of water. Additional ingredients are ¼ each of ground ginger and cayenne pepper.
It's a cinch to make - all one has to do is mix all the ingredients and take the concoction by teaspoon. While the amount to take will vary three teaspoons seems to bring good relief for an adult.
In looking at the beneficial effects of each ingredient it's easy to understand why this home remedy can cure a
cough. Ginger, for example, has a natural anti-inflammatory effect and is a time honored home remedy for arthritis and bursitis. It also has natural antihistamine properties as well. Other pleasant medicinal effects of ginger are the cure of motion sickness, nausea and chest congestion.
Cayenne is a natural pain
reducer that suppresses the chemical in our bodies that carries the message of pain from the nerves in the afflicted area to the brain. Cayenne warms and stimulates, easing chills. It can even reduce the pain of shingles.
Honey draws poison and pus out of a wound, while water is used just to dilute the awful
taste of the concoction.
Of course, not every home remedy will work on every illness every time for every person. If a cough is persistent, lasting more than 7 days and is accompanied by a fever and headache a trip to a doctor may be warranted. This is especially true if there is thick green or yellow mucus
coming up with the cough.
This home cough remedy is not recommended for children for two reasons. First, the taste is much too strong for their sensitive taste buds. Second, children under one year old have to have honey that is boiled or pasteurized.
For everyone else, this home remedy is a great cough relieving recipe.
