When people hear the word "stress", what usually comes to their mind is something that is hard to control and is often caused by overworking or any other troublesome factors. Not a lot of people know that there's a good and bad form of stress.
Good stress is when you feel thrilled or excited. The goal to proper stress management is to deal with the bad form of stress. That stress comes from a hard day from your workplace, a family problem or any other negative stuff.
So, how do you actually go about stress management? Here are some tips:
1. Manage Your Time.
Proper time management plays a major role in surmounting bad stress. If you have only tried to finish on time the cumbersome chores you've been putting off like the documents your boss have been asking you submit since last week, you won't get groggy during the deadline, right?
To-do lists, which can either be taken note of with the use of your
PDA, cellphone, laptop or a small notebook, can help you out in this endeavor. Post-its also aid in prioritizing the urgent duties. Yes, prioritization is another buzzword that should not be taken for granted if you are to control stress. Prioritize what will have worse consequences if left unfinished.
2. Manage Your Finances.
One of the most stressing topics in this world is trying to manage your finances. Debts often cause headaches and other worse signs of
stress such as getting heart diseases. If you are planning to manage a big chunk of those factors that stress you, a healthy financial management scheme will help you. Have a regular checkup of your net worth maybe once a month. This will allow you to monitor how much you owe and how much you own.
If you're liabilities are way greater than your assets, downsize your lifestyle. You don't have to feel underprivileged, just make the most of whatever you can afford.
Cliché'ish but true - live within your means.
Do you have a credit card swiping addiction problem? Balance transfers, debt consolidation or cutting your credit cards altogether may help you. Save not only for the rainy days but also for your other major spending goals such as travels and car. Automatic transfers that might be worked out with your company can be a solution to those who are having a hard time saving a big part of their salary.
Thinking about
your retirement can be another stressful thought. But being prepared such as maximizing your 401(k) savings and investing on safe income sources will decrease the stress you might undergo in the long run.
3. Don't be a YES person.
Always, that is. If you keep on nodding on all the appointments and requests of your superiors, colleagues, family and friends, chances are you are stretching yourself too thin. If "staying in your comfort zone" is not your thing,
you should at least allow some time for yourself. Guiltless pleasures such as improving the results of your other more important pursuits can also become some motivational factor instead of just getting EVERYTHING done with less fulfilling results.
4. Get a hobby. Get a life!
If you can't choose a job that indulges your interests, pursuing a hobby during your leisure time will prove to be very beneficial to your stress management endeavor. No matter how
childish your interests are (collecting toys, painting manga or anime', etc.), just do it!
Get into a school, seminar or workshops that will help you explore more about your hobby. You might soon get acquainted with other people with the same interests as yours, who may be your business partners or who knows, life partners really soon. Yes, having someone to love is another stress management aid.
Getting into an activity or hobby you enjoy doing will not
only widen your circle of friends but may also help you gain fresher perspectives in life. Meditative activities have also been proven very effective in maintaining a stress-free life.
Those tips, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle that will consequentially help you maintain a healthy body, will help you save on paying shrinks or from buying medications that can't really promise side-effect-less stress management results. It's your call. Live like Grinch or have a stress-free life?
